VESSEL AND DISPENSER SAFETY INFORMATION
Compatibility safety
It is very important not to store chemical reactives, biologically active ingredients, solvents, carbonated liquids, strong acids or strong bases in your vessels.
Please keep your vessels out of direct sunlight if they contain any of the following ingredients:
- Volatile solvents such as alcohol or rubbing alcohol.
- Hydrogen peroxide (and only store in heavily diluted form, otherwise use and discard).
- Large quantities of essential oils.
- Vinegar if mixed with bi-carb soda or other reactive substances.
These ingredients can cause an excessive amount of pressure to build up inside the vessel and can cause the dispensers to fail, the product to leak, or in extreme cases, it could cause the vessel to explode.
Pump and spray blockages
Our pump and spray vessels are mechanical dispensing products and should be used with care.
Residue from cleaning products, soaps, or other liquids may dry or build up inside the pump or spray mechanism over time. Any formulation, regardless of viscosity, can cause blockages or obstructions. If a blockage occurs, pressure may build within the mechanism and liquid may be released unexpectedly when the pump or trigger is pressed.
Unexpected release of liquid may cause injury, including irritation or injury to the eyes, skin, or face, particularly if the contents are cleaning or chemical products.
To reduce the risk of injury, we recommend:
following all dilution and usage instructions provided with cleaning products
- rinsing pumps and spray heads regularly with warm water
- checking nozzles for blockages before use
- keeping bottles pointed away from the face and eyes when operating, testing, or unclogging
- discontinuing use if the pump or spray mechanism becomes difficult to operate or does not dispense smoothly
Améli Home vessels should be used only as intended, with appropriate care, and kept out of reach of children.
IMPORTANT NOTES BEFORE VESSEL USE
Do the vessels come with product to put inside?
No. We are providing an aesthetic, durable, refillable vessel for you to put your own products inside.
You may choose to make your own products, inspired by our journal with lots of DIY recipes (and more to come).
Or you may choose to fill with products from your favourite brands. Ideally these products will come in the form of refill concentrates, dissolvable powders, tablets or bars, or refill pouches which significantly reduce plastic waste.
Where should I store my vessels?
Store vessels upright at all times to prevent leaks. Vessels are not suitable for travelling.
For best performance, keep your vessels stored in a cool environment and out of direct sunlight.
Spray vessels can be stored on countertops, however If storing them in warm locations or in direct sunlight, keep the spray trigger in the OFF position when not in use.
Avoid storing vessels containing the following ingredients in warm environments or direct sunlight:
• Volatile solvents such as alcohol or rubbing alcohol
• High concentrations of essential oils
• Reactive mixtures such as vinegar combined with bi-carb soda
These formulations can create pressure inside the vessel, which may lead to leaking, dispenser failure, or distortion of the vessel over time.
For best results, store vessels in a cool, shaded location and always ensure the liquids used are compatible with HDPE plastic and dispensing components.
What are the 2 seals inside the vessel for?
New vessels:
The new vessels only contain one silicone seal that must be kept inside the vessel during use.
Original vessels:
Our original vessels contain two seals. The first seal you will see as you open the vessel is stamped "Sealed for your protection." This seal proves that your vessel has not been used, or tampered with. You may remove this and dispose of it.
The second seal is the cap liner, permanently adhered to the top of the cap. This liner is not essential, but is ideal for added protection against product leakage from pressure build up.
The adhesive bond under the cap liner may be compromised if you are using certain essential oils, alcohol or vinegar in your vessels, if so please email [email protected] for a free replacement seal which is adhesive free.
What can I put inside the vessels?
Our vessels are made from 100% recycled HDPE plastic. While highly durable, HDPE is not compatible with all liquid formulations.
Compatibility depends on the specific ingredients and concentration of the product used.
We do not recommend storing highly concentrated, chemically reactive, or solvent based formulations in your vessels. This may include certain stain removers, degreasers, citrus concentrates (including high-limonene products), industrial cleaners, strong acids, strong bases, or carbonated liquids.
Some formulations may cause distortion of the plastic, swelling of sealing components, or compromise internal cap liner adhesives over time.
Essential oils must always be properly diluted. Highly concentrated essential oils or citrus-based blends may not be suitable.
Note for Original Vessels
If you have an original vessel with a white inner cap liner, the adhesive used in that liner may be affected by certain liquids, including some essential oils or highly concentrated formulations.
If you experience loosening of the liner, please contact us at [email protected] and we can provide an adhesive free cap liner replacement.
What liquids can I dispense with the sprays?
Our sprays are designed for general use with household cleaners and laundry liquids typically dispensed through spray triggers.
If you're using essential oils, please do so with caution. Oils that are not properly emulsified can cause blockages in the spray mechanism. We recommend dispersing essential oils with vodka, alcohol, or a suitable solubiliser to help prevent build-up. If you experience clogging, try soaking the trigger head in warm water, then place the dip tube into warm water and pump a few times to flush the mechanism.
Please note:
- Our sprays are not compatible with all liquids.
- Mixtures containing baking soda, powders, or undiluted essential oils may clog the mechanism and impair functionality.
Our sprays are compatible with diluted vinegar-based solutions. However, be aware that the internal mechanism includes metal components that may degrade over time with prolonged exposure to acidic ingredients.
Our product trials indicated that most liquids listed on our label sheets performed effectively with our sprays. That said, we’re unable to test all possible formulations.
We offer complimentary spray replacements within the first 6 months of purchase for manufacturing faults. Please note this does not apply to damage caused by incompatible liquids. If your spray trigger is affected by such use, replacements can be purchased here.
What liquids can I dispense with the pumps?
Our vessel pumps are designed to dispense liquids with a medium viscosity, such as hand wash and body wash. With a medium 1ml output, they deliver a controlled amount with each press, making them ideal for use on the face, hands, and everyday home care products.
While they can be used for shampoo, dish soap, and laundry liquids, you may need a few extra pumps to dispense the desired amount.
While many household liquids are compatible, please consider the following before use:
- Very thick liquids or highly viscous products may create pressure in the pump mechanism and can result in leakage around the collar, difficulty dispensing or pump failure.
- Products with large particles like body scrubs, can stop the pump from working altogether.
- Thin, low-viscosity liquids may not dispense effectively and may spray upward rather than down
If you're experiencing dispensing issues, we recommend rinsing your pump regularly with warm water to maintain optimal flow.
We offer complimentary pump replacements within the first 6 months of purchase for pumps that exhibit manufacturing faults. Please note that this warranty does not cover issues arising from the use of incompatible liquids.
If your pump has been affected due to the use of such substances, replacements are available for purchase here.
Are the vessels travel friendly?
Our vessels are not designed for travel and should always be kept upright to prevent leakage. Changes in air pressure during flights will almost certainly cause the cap to leak.
labels
How do I apply the transfer labels?
1. Clean the surface thoroughly
Use isopropyl alcohol to wipe the exterior of the vessel and allow it to dry completely. A clean surface is essential for adhesion and prevents peeling later.
2. Transfer the letters onto the film
Press each letter on the transfer film with a bank card or your fingernail to ensure they stick properly to the transfer film before removing. Peel it off carefully. If a letter does not stay on the film, carefully place the transfer film back down, and repeat step 2 again.
3. Position the label correctly
Place the transfer film where you want the label. We recommend positioning it just above the 500 ml or 16.9 fl oz mark and centering it based on the midpoint between those measurements.
4. Apply firm pressure
Use your thumbs to press the entire label flat against the vessel. Then go over each letter with a bank card or fingernail to ensure they are fully adhered.
5. Remove the transfer film slowly
Lift the transfer film slowly at a low angle. If any letter lifts with it press it back into place and press again.
6. To reveal your waterproof oil proof durable label
Remove the film to reveal. If any letters are not in correct position, use tweezers to carefully realign.
You can also view a video of the application process on the label product page.
How do I remove the transfer labels?
The labels are waterproof and oil proof and designed for longevity so they cannot be peeled off.
Please use a hair dryer on the medium setting in short bursts. The label will peel off with ease and we recommend using a little eucalyptus oil (or similar) to remove the residue. Please then clean and dry, ideally with isopropyl alcohol, before applying your new label.
VESSEL CARE AND MAINTENANCE
How often should I clean the vessels?
Please clean all components every time you refill your vessels, to avoid the accumulation of bacteria. The silicone O-ring in our second generation vessels can be removed for cleaning purposes.
We also recommend a weekly clean of the exterior. Please ensure the base of the vessels and inside of the tray are clean and dry to avoid mould growth.
How do I clean the vessels?
Mix a solution of warm water and dishwashing liquid to clean the inside and outside of the vessels.
To clean the pump or spray, use the same solution above, pour it into your vessel and place the dip tube into the water and pump or spray the dispenser several times to rinse thoroughly.
Allow each part to dry if possible before reassembling.
We also recommend a gentle clean of the exterior and tray once a week with a soft cloth and some mild dishwashing liquid. Please be gentle with the labels for better longevity of the text.
Are the vessels dishwasher safe?
The vessels and tray are dishwasher safe, however the cap liner and the bespoke labels are not, so we advise against this.
VESSEL TROUBLESHOOTING
Why is my pump dispenser leaking?
Pump leakage is usually caused by pressure building inside the pump mechanism or liquids that are not compatible with the pump design.
Our pumps are designed to dispense medium-viscosity liquids such as hand wash, shampoo, body wash and detergents. Very thick products, liquids containing particles, or certain DIY mixtures can interfere with the pump mechanism and may cause liquid to escape around the collar.
If your pump is leaking, we recommend:
• Ensuring the pump is fully tightened onto the vessel
• Rinsing the pump mechanism with warm water to remove any product build up
• Checking that the liquid inside the bottle is suitable for pump dispensing
If the issue continues, please contact us and include:
• A photo
• Details of the product and brand currently inside the bottle
This helps us troubleshoot the issue for you.
We offer complimentary pump replacements within 6 months of purchase for pumps that exhibit manufacturing faults. Issues arising from incompatible liquids are not covered under this warranty.
Why is my spray trigger leaking?
Sunlight and warm or fluctuating temperatures can cause spray triggers to leak. Under these conditions, we recommend storing in a cupboard, or switching the nozzle to the OFF position when not in use.
It is recommended to:
- Always store your spray vessels below 30°C and away from direct sunlight.
- Avoid shaking your vessels to mix products, as this increases internal pressure.
- If you’ve shaken the bottle to mix DIY ingredients, allow a few moments before sealing the cap to release any built-up pressure.
I have an issue with my pump or spray, how can I fix it?
Our manufacturers’ quality control tests show that Améli pumps and sprays are designed to perform for at least 2,000 uses.
If you're experiencing issues, please:
- First ensure the liquid you’re using is suitable (see guidance above).
- Some liquids may require a pump specifically suited to thinner or thicker consistencies.
- Try the recommended cleaning steps listed above, as this often resolves minor blockages or pressure-related issues.
If the issue persists and appears to be a manufacturing fault (not caused by product misuse or incompatibility), email us at [email protected] with details of the liquid you're using. If it’s compatible with our vessels, we’ll gladly send you a free replacement within 6 months of purchase, in line with our Complimentary Dispenser Replacement Program.
Replacement pumps and sprays are also available to purchase anytime on our website.
What is the Dispenser Replacement Program?

Are they forever bottles?
While plastic bottles can technically last up to 10 years - and that’s what most manufacturers, including ours, advise as the maximum lifespan - we recommend replacing them every 2 years for hygiene and safety.
Over time, sunlight exposure can weaken the plastic, and even gentle daily use can create microscopic scratches that may harbour bacteria.
Why not glass or aluminium?
Our first business objective is to drive the adoption of a new consumption model for personal and home care products, to eliminate single use plastic bottles.
This is a big shift for a lot of consumers, so it was important to make this an easy transition first and foremost, without obstacles that will impact the user experience, health and safety.
Throughout our pre-manufacturing trial phase, our Founder tested both glass and aluminium bottles but after one of the bottles smashed in the shower, she concluded that this was not a practical or safe solution. From a safety point of view, glass is not an ideal material in wet rooms, particularly when most shower ledges are slanted for water run-off. It also poses a high risk to children and the elderly, so at this point, plastic is a safer option that is much more likely to be adopted.
The alternative was aluminium, however from a sustainability point of view, at recycling facilities painted aluminium bottles
are often confused with plastic bottles which often leads to them heading to landfill. From an aesthetic point of view, painted aluminium bottles scratch very easily, which encourages consumers to feel the need to replace the bottle more frequently, again defeating the purpose.
Our vessels are made of 100% recycled HDPE plastic which has the highest recycling rate of all plastics in Australia.
Are the pumps and sprays interchangeable?
Yes. Your pump dispensers and spray triggers are the same size and both will fit any 500ml vessel.
